August Driver Education at Mid-Ohio
Drive the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with the Mid Ohio Region PCA. All students are welcome. All makes welcome. Registration is online through www.clubregistration.net
Dates: August 28 – 29, 2010 The registration process starts with you submitting to the tech inspection crew your completed tech form along with your helmet (note: 2000 or newer Snell rated required). After successfully passing tech, bring to registration your tech form and your driver’s license (please note your license must be valid). An expired license is not acceptable. Per PCA procedures we can no longer ask you to submit a medical form. Your tech form should have been completed and dated within two weeks of the event. Our DE events are open to all licensed drivers at least 18 years old and we permit all makes of automobiles. However, SUVs, trucks, vans and similar vehicles are not permitted as they are not suited for high performance driving. Please note, we have several loaner helmets available, but you must reserve one. All persons entering the track must sign both the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and PCA waivers at the gate. You will be given a wrist band when both waivers are signed. You will be asked to display the wrist band before entering the track for each session. This is a track rule and you will not be permitted on the track without the wrist bands. There will be no exceptions. If you misplace the band or it gets destroyed others are available at registration in exchange for signing another set of waivers. All drivers will have an instructor riding with them on-track until the driver is comfortable with the course and their car. There will be four run groups to better match students of similar abilities in the same session. Run Group A will be for very experienced drivers. This group may also contain racers who are looking for track time. Group B will be for experienced drivers and may be new to Mid-Ohio. Group C will be for student drivers with some experience, and Group D will be for student drivers with little or no experience. Classroom sessions are scheduled to discuss several aspects of high performance driving with plenty of time for question and answers. This is an excellent time to learn more about your car and enhance your driving skills. Become comfortable driving your car near the limit, which will improve your overall driving ability both on and off the track. A Taste of the Track: An option designed for those drivers who have not yet decided to take the plunge into high performance driver education. Here is an opportunity to get your feet wet without making a significant financial commitment; nor risking your car; nor buying expensive safety equipment. For a small fee of $25 you can observe and/ or participate in tech inspection; attend the classroom sessions taken by our students and taught by our very experienced senior instructors; and ride with an instructor (in their car) on the track at speed for at least one session. If you do not have a helmet, one will be provided. You really don’t need a car to participate in A Taste of the Track – everything you need is provided! However, you will also have an opportunity to participate in touring laps in your car. These are low speed laps following an instructor during the lunch period. Any street legal vehicle is eligible. This is a one day event and we prefer you sign up for Saturday, since there is no tech inspection and only one classroom session on Sunday. Our chief instructor, Jeff West, 740-745-2136, rb101@windstream.net and his committee will review your application as submitted on www.clubregistration.net to ensure compliance to minimum requirements to be eligible to participate. Please make sure your profile and event history are up to date. If you do not qualify you will be contacted and receive a full refund. Please contact event organizers if you are not sure about acceptance.
