Enjoy driving your Porsche at its limits. Autocrossing is a safe way to drive your Porsche at, and beyond the cars and drivers limits. Typically held in large open paved areas, such as parking lots and airports, an autocross course is a very technical and twisty layout of soft pylon cones. Cars maneuver through the course one at a time and are timed to determine the quickest driver. It is a great way to enhance your driving skills while enjoying competing with fellow Porsche owners.

The Porsche Club Regions from Western Pennsylvania to Indiana have joined together and developed a competition autocross series known as IRAC (Inter Regional Autocross Championship).  Each of the participating regions hosts at least one autocross event and, at the end of the autocross season, championship trophies are awarded to the top finishers in each class.  Class trophies are awarded at each event as well.  The IRAC events are a great opportunity to compete against Porsches similar to your own, and to socialize with a fantastic group of people the day and/or night before the event, or after competition ends.  Schedules, results, and applications for all the upcoming events will be posted to this web page as they become available.

If you are interested in finding out what an autocross is like, the IRAC series offers a novice class where the focus is on teaching the basics of autocrossing.  Many IRAC regions also sponsor autocross driving schools, where the techniques of autocrossing can be practiced in a non-competitive atmosphere. Watch your region's newsletter or this page for details.

2008 Information:
Autocross and the Inter Regional Autocross Championship (IRAC) season is on the way. For all the new members autocrossing is a driving event held on a large paved lot. The bigger the better. A course is laid out with small orange pylons. Your job when you accept the challenge is to run the course as fast as possible without hitting any of the poor little cones. For every cone you hit a two second penalty is added to your time. The purpose is to drive as smoothly as possible and turn a faster time than all the other cars in your class. Or all the classes if you aim that high. The driving smoothly part is the hard part. It can take years to master or just one event. You may never want to master the event and just come out and enjoy running your Porsche or other sports car. The events are as difficult or laid back as you push your self. Some people just come to enjoy the cars and people. Others come out for the competition. Its up to you. There is always plenty of help on how to better your times. At least until you start beating everyone.

IRAC was started many years ago for away for Porsche owners from different regions to get together and socialize and compete. Each participating region would hold an event. This would give everyone different outlets to try. Some big lots, some small. The lot might be concrete or it might be blacktop. The weather might be sunny and warm or cold and rainy. An event is run as long as there is no lightning. Last year the events where held in good weather.

This year the autocross season will start with an autocross drivers school sponsored by the Northern Ohio Porsche Club. The school will be held April 20th At Lake land Community College. This is for everyone who wants to get a start at autocrossing. Most of the regions hold other autocross events by side the IRAC events. Other car clubs also hold autocrosses. Autocrossing is a great way to improve your driving skills with out having to spend a huge amount of time or money getting your car ready. Not to say you can't. You can set your goals.
