March Board Meeting

Correspondence: Member Ken Bigam has offered to present a technical session on oils, including, information about grades, additives and other important data concerning Porsches. Dave plans to pass the idea on to Brooke Mosgrove, Technical Committee Chair. Brice Kadel has written an article for DOS that dispels any misinformation concerning availability of hotel rooms during P2O in July. Dave received an e-mail from PCA concerning Parade sign up. The memo recommends filling out a practice form before the actual date opens up because there is a time limit for completion of the form. Dave also advises that one should sign up for everything because some things get cancelled late. MORPCA is the happy recipient of the special rebate from National that totaled $800. Dave informs all that there are new insurance rates for Club Race events. Chip Henderson e-mailed Dave to offer a wine tasting event with Adobe Road Winery and member Kevin Brickler. Jay and Dave plan to attend the Zone 4 Presidents Meeting in Toledo this month. The big topics will include insurance and member retention.

Presidential comment: Please get any and all news related articles to Tom and Brian as soon as possible. It is not Tom or Brian’s job to write the articles, the submittals should be ready to post in either format.

Treasurer’s Report was presented by Mike Stoner. His report was quite detailed showing last year numbers adjacent to the 2008 projection budget numbers. The club is slated for a modest profit using these figures. A motion to accept the budget was raised by Gerhard and Ron seconded it. Mike plans to give final notice to 2 advertisers due to non payment.

John Peecook, Driving Events Chair, says the Putnam Park DE contract dates are a go and the Mid-Ohio Race Track officials signed the contract for DE and Club Race with MORPCA. Dave will work with Jim to make the registration for the May DE online, so Club Race participants can sign up for both events at the same time. Payment will be with checks this year. Garages will cost $100 per day; there will be no quantity discount. Jim Mudra is working with Byers Imports on the details of DE sponsorship. There will be an autocross event on June 1st at the Ohio State University west parking lots. Jim Rybeck secured a great bid for purchase of new pylons. John made the motion to buy them from that supplier and Marsha seconded it. There was some discussion about recycling the old pylons or selling them to another car club. It was determined that they are junk and should be recycled if possible. Jim Rybeck found the lifetime guarantee documents for the 2 broken torque wrenches and the supplier replaced them.

Tom Barry, Membership Chair, reported a total of 839 members with 4 new and 2 transfers. Tom and Ginny will staff the upcoming technical sessions at Byers and MAG to capture potential new members. The session at Byers Imports will be on May 3rd and will have food available to attendees. The session at MAG will be held on April 5th. Dave Hayden plans to bring extra copies of Pano for interested parties. The publication “Porsche Family Tree” will be available for $5 per copy through the Goodie store.

Newsletter Editor, Tom Stein, encouraged all to submit articles and dates of events that relate to club members. Along those lines, he will post the dates of the Stoddard Vintage Parts Swap Meet in the calendar.

Social Events Chair, Gerhard Hillmann, reported a fabulous turnout for the Taj Ma Garaj Event in February. About 90 people attended the tour and 60 showed up for dinner at the Ol’ Hickory Bar-B-Q. The first Sunday Brunch meeting had a slim turnout, Gerhard felt that the idea needs time to catch on. The wine tasting at Haus Frau Haven in German Village is all set up for Saturday, April 12th. The date of the Drive and Dine event to Cedar Falls has changed to Saturday, April 26th and the membership will be notified of the change with an e-mail blast. Gerhard is using the address: morpcasocial@yahoo.com to answer any questions about upcoming events.

Web Master, Brian Peterson, has posted some more great pictures on the memory lane portion of the site but would like the membership to submit more photos to fill it up. He will change the name for the web site contact on the national PCA e-mail list. Dick Snyder would like the Club Race and Driver’s Education event information to be featured prominently on the web page.

Concours King, Brice Kadel, would like to step aside from this job so he can focus on his increasingly popular event, Porsches 2 Oxford. Dave will help find a new person to chair this committee.

Round Table Discussion

--Frank Todaro has completed (except the index) the MORPCA Driver’s Education Event Manual. This document was written for people that are interested and have questions about what happens at these events. It will be available on the website so internet savvy potential students can access it. Frank has also been working on the insurance angle of Driver’s Education events. He is trying to get raw data from PCA concerning number of participants and incidents so the insurance companies can crank out a policy. This data is closely guarded by national PCA and so far they have not supplied it to Frank. Dave and Jay will talk about the project at the Zone 4 Presidents meeting.
--John Peecook would like a Gerhard to organize a golf outing this summer.
--Ron Carr tells Frank not to be disappointed if PCA does not give the insurance data out.
--Mike Stoner is very excited to announce that he will pick up his car from the body shop this week and plans to enter the May Driver’s Education event!
--Jay Koehler announced that there are 43 drivers signed up for Club Race as of the meeting date.

The meeting adjourned at 9:01pm. The motion to adjourn was put forth by Marsha and seconded by Ron. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd at King Avenue Five Sports Lounge in Grandview. The dinner portion starts around 6pm and the business meeting starts around 7pm.
