HOG ROASTS..FUN FOR EVERYONE, EXCEPT THE HOG
ANNUAL HOG ROAST IS FUN FOR EVERYONE EXCEPT THE HOG
By Chris Rieman
The annual MORPCA Pig Roast was held on Saturday September 29th at the resort-inspired home of Mike and Debra Stoner in Hilliard. With a house on the Scioto River and chamber-of-commerce-type, autumn weather; it was a perfect combination enabling Gerhard Hillmann to provide boat rides to many of the sea-worthy guests. More than half of those in attendance took the opportunity to view the lovely river homes that can’t be seen from the road.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Social Director Cindy Shultz, more than forty MORPCA members dined on some great pulled pork, German potato salad, fresh fruit, green beans (made specifically for Bob Curley), and some wonderful dessert pastries and brownies.
In an effort to lighten the inventory of the MORPCA Goodie Store, Karen Kohler organized a raffle that had ten lucky winners sporting everything from new T-shirts to insulated travel mugs.
There were a number of new members who were attending their first MORPCA social event. Jack and Margie Chance were (once again) among the ranks of fun-lovers. Jack was a founding member of MORPCA forty years ago and the club’s first president. Jack and Margie just ‘re-joined’ after purchasing a shiny red Boxster. (For those of you keeping track, that’s now eight members residing in Urbana – giving the county seat of Champaign County the largest number of MORPCA members in proportion to population!)
Parked in the Stoner’s front yard were some great looking Porsches – including a new GT3 which was still wearing temporary tags. I apologize to the new owner for drooling all over his car. I just couldn’t help myself. I also drooled on Mike and Lisa Doseck’s gorgeous silver Cayman S.
A fine time was had by one and all...which is standard operating procedure for any MORPCA social event. So, if you’ve been wondering what you are missing by not attending, now you know: a lot of fun with a lot of nice people.
NOTE: Some of you may be interested to learn that club members Marty and Lynn Reich were able to attend the Hog Roast without their twenty-four year old car riding on the back of a tow truck (for the third time this summer…but hey, who’s counting?). Yes, that’s right -- their car actually made it from Urbana to Hilliard and back with no problems. Needless to say, those in the towing business were quite disappointed.
