On Saturday July 28th, 254 shiny Porsches adorned the quaint brick streets of uptown Oxford, Ohio. Coming from thirteen states and Canada and representing twenty PCA regions, Porsches started arriving as early as 5:45 a.m.
Brice Kadel, P2O Co-Chairperson said, “Friday’s wet weather probably kept attendance down a bit as we actually had over 265 cars register. However, those that stayed home missed a great time as the weatherman did indeed cooperate and it stayed dry all day. We feel real good about the fact that we hosted as many cars as we did. Porsches2Oxford is truly becoming a big-time, national, Porsche event!”
Throughout the day over $5,000 worth of great door prizes were awarded to those in attendance. Among the highlights were three framed Porsche prints signed by Jay Leno and donated by Beechmont Porsche of Cincinnati. Additional awards included two free trips to next year’s event, as well as four Tom-Tom navigation units. The grand prize was a $750 gift certificate for a driving school, donated by Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
There was also a “People’s Choice Car Show” with awards to the top 35 vote-getting cars. Winning Best of Show was Fred Lawrence of Indianapolis with his 1957 356A Speedster. Winning cars from MORPCA belonged to Linda Kadel, John Galvin, Brad Shisler, Rick Thompson, Kevin Seeley, and Ron Thomas. Traveling the farthest to attend was Kelly Manley who drove from Annandale Minnesota in his 1973 914.
Attending from Weston Connecticut were PCA National President Prescott Kelly and his wife Pam. Although they didn’t drive to Oxford, the Kelly’s had a great time and are planning on returning. Mr. Kelly said, “This is a wonderful location and a great event. We’re really glad we made the trip. This truly is a first-class, ‘casual Porsche party’”. Zone Rep Roy Wilkinson and his wife Judi made the journey from Akron. Roy has been a long-time supporter and promoter of P2O.
On Sunday, there was a fun rally orchestrated by Scenic Road Rallies LLC of Sunman, Indiana. Thirty teams participated with awards to the top five finishers.
P2O was started five years ago (as Porsches to Pinckney) by Bill and MaryLynn Roe who were looking for an excuse for a group of Porsche-lovers to take a drive to dinner. After two years in Pinckney, the event was moved to Oxford. Bill Roe said, “MaryLynn would be real happy with the direction this event has taken. Our original concept was simply to have a good time with our friends. The ‘casual Porsche Party’ that has been created over the last five years does just that. It provides a great opportunity for folks to get together in a casual atmosphere for a day of good times and good friends.”
This year’s major sponsors were Griot’s Garage (for their second consecutive year), Beechmont Porsche of Cincinnati, and Auto Aficionado Magazine. Providing the car show awards was Taj Kruezers Charities.
