Porsche to Sponsor Upcoming “The Allure of the Automobile”
Exhibition at Atlanta's High Museum of Art

ATLANTA, February 3, 2010 – When a nationally renowned fine art museum is showcasing cars as
masterpieces of art in your home town you pay attention.  When you are Porsche you become a
patron and help welcome the cars that represent the industry’s most incredible designs.

The High Museum of Art exhibition, called, fittingly, the “The Allure of the Automobile,” is sponsored
by the famous German sports car company, headquartered in Atlanta, and will feature some of the
world’s most rare and spectacularly conceived vehicles ever produced. Among these exquisite
collectors items from both sides of the Atlantic will be a 71-year old Porsche design that is
considered the precursor to all Porsches—the 1938/39 Porsche Type 64.    Read More...

Autocross 2009- By Mike Tepley

Autocross 2009

It is time to end the hibernation. Bulbs are forcing their way up, hearty buds are emerging and Porsches are begging to be driven.

By the time you read this the season opening 24 hours of Daytona occurred 60 days ago. While we might just see another snowfall before spring, it’s time for us Midwesterners to wake up and get ready.

This year we are going to have it pretty good. As most of the ardent readers know, I began my autocross diatribes last year in hopes of increasing the participation at the events. This year the club has answered with 4 local autocrosses.

That’s right, you can actually autocross 4 times this year without you or the Porsche getting more than a mile or so outside the beltway. Due to some scheduling changes MOR has been lucky enough to host two of the IRAC series events this year.
For those of you that are not familiar with IRAC, it stands for the Inter Regional Autocross Championship. Basically, you can accumulate points at each IRAC event scheduled by Porsche clubs throughout Ohio and at the end of the season they announce the standings for each class. You can also run in IRAC events even if you have no interest in accumulating points. It is open to everyone just like a non-IRAC event would be.

New Porsche Museum to be opened on January 31, 2009
Exclusive restaurant and conference areas complement the exhibition of historic vehicles

ATLANTA, December 1 - In the new Porsche Museum the final preparations are made for the
opening on Saturday, January 31, 2009. Now that the scaffolding has been removed, it is
possible to see to the full extent the bold architecture of the building at the head office premises
of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG in Zuffenhausen: The 5,600 square metres of exhibition space are
supported on just three so-called cores of reinforced concrete – hence just seeming to hover in
space. Inside the building the majority of approximately 80 exhibits are already in place.    Read More...

Next Generation 911 News

NEW GENERATION PORSCHE® 911 INITIATIVE CONTINUES WITH
CARRERA 4/4S COUPE AND CABRIOLET
New Engines, Double-Clutch Transmission and Electronically Controlled All-Wheel-Drive

Atlanta,  June  25,  2008  –  New  engines,  all-wheel-drive  systems,  transmissions,  interior
features  and  exterior  cues  will  mark  the  evolutionary  advances  of  the  new  2009  Porsche  911
Carrera  4  and  Carrera  4S  models  upon  their  introduction  this  fall  when  they  join  the  already
announced two-wheel-drive 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S.
Like  the  improvements  to  the  rear-wheel-drive  models,  the  combined  changes  for  the
Porsche 911 Carrera 4/4S will result in enhanced performance coupled with better fuel economy
and reduced emissions.
The  output  of  the  3.6  liter  engine  in  the  Porsche  911  Carrera  4  increases  by  20
horsepower to 345 hp. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S with its 3.8 liter engine is equally impressive,
with an increase of 30 horsepower to 385 hp.
The revolutionary PDK works in conjunction with direct fuel injection for the flat-six engines
and   electronically   controlled   all-wheel-drive   system   to   provide   these   seemingly   diverse
improvements to performance, fuel-economy and emissions.   Read More...

Henry Payne III, 73, dies at home

Local engineer Henry Payne III, 73, dies at home

By Alison Knezevich
Staff writer

Henry E. Payne III, a noted engineer and a founder of the State Journal newspaper, died Friday at his Charleston home after an extended illness. He was 73.
In 1959, Payne founded Payne Engineering in Princeton, N.J. The company pioneered the commercial application of solid-state controls, which monitor heat and speed of industrial machines. Today, the firm has plants in both Scott Depot and Palm Bay, Fla.
Payne was born in Highland Park, Ill., but lived there only briefly before his family moved to Charleston, said his wife, Connie Payne.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Yale University and a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from Princeton University.
Payne was an avid vintage-race car driver. He often raced at major tracks with his son, Henry IV, a cartoonist with the Detroit News.
"I think as an engineer, [race car driving] was a challenge to him," Connie Payne said. "And also he was just a very talented, athletic man who was an excellent driver."
For years, Payne wrote a monthly column called "Tomorrow's World," which was published in The Charleston Gazette.
"He was always looking ahead, a man way ahead of his time in everything," his wife said.
He read voraciously in both English and German, she said.

The Floyd Acton Award by Andy Trux

At the Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show & Cruise-In, MORPCA presents the Floyd Acton Award to the club member who best represents the ideals of PCA membership. Most of our current members have no idea who Floyd Acton was, so it’s appropriate to provide some details.

March 1976 DOS wrote about Floyd & Thelma Acton: “These two cute people get A+ for enthusiasm! I’ve never seen Thelma without a smile. She’s cute, bright, bouncy and has a marvelous positive attitude … something we could all use more of.

“Floyd is, on the other hand, the quiet, steady albeit always smiling one of the pair – a great combination as I’ve never seen two people have more fun together. Read More...
