ATLANTA – February 16, 2010 – Porsche Cars North America today announced the addition of two new Panamera models, just three months after successfully launching the first four-door Gran Turismo in three V8 flavors: the Panamera S, the Panamera 4S and the Panamera Turbo.
The Panamera and Panamera 4, the model line’s new entry level versions, will be in Porsche dealerships in June 2010. Both feature a brand-new 3.6-liter V6 with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) developing 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The Panamera transmits its power to the road via the rear wheels, while the Panamera 4 comes standard with active all-wheel drive. IRAC V Autocross 8/23/09 OSU Parking Lot Columbus, OH

The first thing drivers noticed upon entering the OSU lot was that there were now cones in the traditional parking and staging areas. It had long been held among MORPCA Autocross regulars that if we are paying for the whole parking lot we might as will use the whole parking lot. Well today was the day.

The task was given to Mark Onosko to layout a course using both sides of the parking lot that is divided by the grassy esplanade. Through a very clever design that involved racing through the connector section, Mark laid out a very long and challenging course that had everyone smiling and a bit perplexed. Read More...

Instructors went through an intense class that focused on communication skills to aid them in effective communication with students. IRAC IV Owens Community College August 9, 2009

Summer finally arrived as the participants began to ready for the event. Just putting numbers on the cars brought a bit of moisture to everyone’s brow. Temperatures would eventually reach about 95 in Toledo and since Ohio’s summer had been mild up to this point it caught everyone a little off guard.

Gregg Herr with MVR laid out what appeared to be at first walk around, the same course. However, with clever use of some really offset gates set at strange angles to each other; it was a challenge to reach a flowing rhythm with this course. And this made things rather interesting. Read More...

DESPITE WEATHER, P2O SETS RECORDS
With strong summer storms descending upon Oxford Ohio at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday July 25th, the outlook for a record-setting Porsches2Oxford 2009 seemed bleak. However, before the day was over the sun came out…as did 409 Porsches from nineteen states and Canada – setting a new record for the number of cars to grace the quaint brick streets of uptown Oxford for this annual event hosted by MORPCA.
Brice Kadel, P2O Chairperson said, “The radar at 4:30 a.m. couldn’t have looked a whole lot worse. However, after all the rain at this year’s Immke show, we had come up with a contingency plan for P2O. We understand that the weather kept a lot of folks at home. However, the real story is about those who did attend. We can’t thank enough those who choose to come despite the weather. Without 409 cars full of devoted attendees, it could have been a real disaster.” Read More...

Being I was the only one in attendance I accepted this award on the clubs behalf. Thanks to all who attended. There were some beautiful cars. Even the Cab in the rain with the top down. IRAC 2 Autocross OSU 6/28/09.

Although the weather was a bit questionable 18 Porsches and 6 X cars made it out to the 2nd IRAC autocross of the season. While the overall turnout was a bit disappointing initially, a smile was brought to everyone’s face when NOR’s Gino Tasca showed up pulling his Porsche behind a dump truck. (It doesn’t matter how you get there friends, it just matters that you get there.)
Mark Onosko laid out a very open course that left many drivers with track experience smiling. The cones were set wide and the gates quite large which made for some really fast times. Read More...

MORPCA Autocross Westerville North High School
6/14/2009

Even with a small chance of rain 16 Porsches and 4 X cars made it out to the first MORPCA autocross of the season. Once again Jeff Dupler and Dave Wenger laid out a very interesting course complete with a high speed banked 180 degree turn and a full 360 degree skid pad turn.
The course began with a couple of very sharp turns that took the driver through a series of 180’s and then through a very fast section of off-set gates. The cars could build up a great deal of speed through this section that ended with banked 180 degree turn. The bank turn led into a couple more off-set gates and then into the slalom and bus stop. From the bus stop you entered quickly into the 360 degree skid pad turn. You have never heard so much tire squeal as drivers fought to keep the cars from spinning out. Read More...

What About the Club Race!!?

When I received the July issue of Die Offen Strasse the other day, I noticed there were three pages dedicated to recent autocrosses – but nothing about the spring Club Race! So here is a short bit on the event – from a driver’s point of view.

It was the first of two 15-lap sprint races planned for the day for the Red Sprint group. Six of us had qualified within a second of each other and when the green flag dropped, the fight was on. We started the race by going three-wide into turn one and spent the next 20 minutes taking every possible line around the 2.25 mile Mid Ohio circuit in a vain attempt to get into passing position on the guy in front – while trying not to let the guy behind get the advantage. Since this was a sprint race, there was no time to hang back and wait for something to happen, you had to push the issue and try to force the driver ahead into a mistake if you wanted to move up a tic on the scoring sheet. We were two and three wide everywhere. Just when I thought I had a pass made, another car would come out of nowhere and take the inside line. I would go wide to avoid contact and the car I just passed would slip back to the inside with a better line into the next turn. It was a six-car drag race down the back straight, through thunder valley and back across the start finish. Laps clicked by with no obvious leader of the pack. It didn’t matter what position I was fighting for, I just wanted the next one. We pushed the envelope on every lap with threshold braking and tires squealing through the turns. Read More...
